Parker Bring the car Round
The below is a short comic strip portrayal of FAB1's appearance on BBC East Midlands.

Thunderbirds facts
  • The 60s TV puppet series was about a team called International Rescue, which came to the aid of people in peril all over the world.
  • The team was made up of Jeff Tracy and his sons Scott, John, Virgil Gordon and Alan. They were helped by scientist Brains and Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward and her chauffeur Parker.
  • Creator Gerry Anderson came up with the idea in 1963 after hearing how trapped miners were rescued after a drilling machine was transported across Germany to them.
  • Anderson and his team came up with the technique of supermarionation, which meant the puppets' lips moved in sync with the soundtrack.
  • The TV series was made into a film in 2004 by director Jonathan Frakes.

FAB car!

Car mad Melvin Jarvis has built a life-size version of Lady Penelope's pink limo from cult TV puppet show Thunderbirds. And he's hiring it out! A Leicestershire mechanic is hiring out a life-size model of the famous pink Rolls Royce from cult TV show Thunderbirds.

Melvin Jarvis, aged 39, from Thurnby Lodge, has lovingly re-created the six wheeler, which is 21ft long.

The father-of-three is now hiring it out for hen nights and other celebrations.

Mr Jarvis says the project started as a hobby but soon became a possible money-spinner.

He said: "It's something I have always wanted to do from being a kid.

"But there had to be a purpose to it - rather than it just being left in the garage."

Mr Jarvis has also shown off the car at a convention in Borehamwood in Hertfordshire to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the show.

He says he was invited to take part by organisers who had seen an article about him on bbc.co.uk/leicester.

The TV show, which was first broadcast in 1964, has a huge following despite the fact that only 32 episodes were made.

FAB for hire

If you've ever wanted to be Gordon Tracy then a Leicester enthusiast will soon be offering trips in a specially converted Thunderbirds-style pink limo!

Have you ever wanted to zip round the world in Thunderbird One? Or were you jealous of Gordon Tracy as he negotiated Thunderbird Four deep underwater to rescue the world from certain disaster?

Well now everyone's dream of taking a ride in one of the magnificent crafts could be about to become reality.

Melvin Jarvis from Thurnby Lodge in Leicestershire is building a life-sized version of Lady Penelope's pink limo!

Melvin plans to be your very own Parker and, for a fee, taxi you to and from events and functions.

The 21-foot long car is a life-sized replica of the model used in the television series and has six wheels. He started building the car last Christmas and hopes to be on the road in time for the start of the Christmas party season.

"There is still a little bit of finishing off to do here and there but it's pretty much a complete car now. It starts and drives and there's just a bit of cosmetics to finish off. I am hoping to hire it out," says Melvin.

Melvin, who is a fan of the television series says he always planned to build something like this and, although it started as a hobby, he soon realised he could make a living acting as Parker to the public.

"It's something I have always wanted to do from being a kid. I have started building it and it has gone from there. There has to be a purpose rather than it being in the garage," adds Meslvin.

Melvin hopes to add all the extras and finishing touches to his FAB 1 soon as watch out on the streets of Leicestershire for people lording it around town in their very own piece of retro fun.

YOUR LIMO'S WAITING, M'LADY

Like many youngsters, Mervin Jarvis dreamed of driving a six-wheeled car just like the one in his favourite show, Thunderbirds.

Thirty years later he has turned that dream into reality - and built his own version of the pink Rolls-Royce that starred in the cult TV show.

With only a toy replica as a guide, the air-conditioning engineer spent a year planning, designing and putting together a real-life version of Lady Penelope's luxurious limo.

What's more, he hopes to turn Parker and offer fellow fans of Thunderbirds the chance to be chauffeur driven in the retro motor.

"There is still a little bit of finishing off to do here and there but it's pretty much a complete car now. It starts and drives and there's just a bit of cosmetics to finish off. I am hoping to hire it out," Jarvis told the BBC Leicester website.

"It's something I have always wanted to do from being a kid. I have started building it and it has gone from there. There has to be a purpose rather than it being in the garage," adds Jarvis.
